If you don’t already know, Garcinia Cambogia is a tropical fruit, looking similar to pumpkin, and is small in size and boasts of being very tasty. It’s known for its seemingly magical abilities in helping one loss weight. Over the past few years, there has been a lot of hype around it, with people from throughout the world seeing their perfect weight-loss supplement in it.
However, a lot of doubts too have been raised over its use, effectiveness, safety, and what not. A lot of people think it’s absolutely useless at helping one lose weight, and what’s surprising is that some studies seem to be supporting such claims too. But on the other hand, some other studies revealed some surprisingly positive results, in both animals and humans, almost offering enough evidence to prove that it’s quite an effective weight-loss supplement. Furthermore, a lot of people seem to be using it to great advantage as well.
So finally, it seems that more and more people have started accepting the fact that Garcinia Cambogia is indeed an effective weight-loss supplement. However, still not many manage to use it the proper way in order to achieve the best results, sometimes leading to some unpleasant side effects. Yes, Garcinia Cambogia side effects can be pretty daunting at times, but are usually nowhere near to being adverse. Regardless of these facts, it’s probably wise to know all the side effects related to Garcinia Cambogia, in order to be able to avoid them or at least be prepared for them in case you fall prey to some of them.
Garcinia Cambogia side effects
Firstly, it’s probably worth noting that different people have different views. You would find some people calling Garcinia Cambogia a very dangerous supplement, while some others say they’re sure of its safety. However, it probably comes down to your subjective condition as well as your way of using it.
So anyway, we will start with taking a look at some of the common side effects of Garcinia Cambogia.
The FDA warning
Back in 2009, the Food and Drug Administration had urged everyone to stop using Garcinia Cambogia completely, as it was then believed to be the reason for multiple hospitalization, causing some serious liver problems. However, it didn’t take too long for it to make it back to the market and gain people’s acceptance, as it wasn’t known whether Garcinia Cambogia itself was the reason for these health problems or it was one of the ingredients used in the products back then.
There were also some studies carried out to uncover this fact, but they too failed at doing so, as according to some of them, it did cause liver problems while some others said it was completely safe for the liver.
However, from then on, there didn’t seem to be many issues related to liver problems due to using Garcinia Cambogia, so people have probably assumed that it’s perfectly safe for their liver.
The reason we mentioned this point as it’s definitely something to be warned about, though not a Garcinia Cambogia side effects, at least not as of now.
Adverse effects during some specific health conditions
Now though Garcinia Cambogia isn’t known to result in any adverse health conditions in its users, it doesn’t claim the same for people going through some specific health conditions.
The very first condition, as while using most of such supplements, is pregnancy. It’s not at all safe to use a Garcinia Cambogia product during pregnancy, as it may lead to multiple health issues, some of which may turn out to be very serious and adversely affect the mother as well as maybe the baby too.
Other health conditions which don’t allow the use of Garcinia Cambogia are Type 2 Diabetes, high cholesterol problems, kidney and liver problems, as well as any serious form of allergies. Similarly, if one is on a meditation for treating a certain health condition, they wouldn’t be recommended to use Garcinia Cambogia as well. This includes people taking medicines for treatment of anemia, coping up with any type of pain, psychiatric conditions, blood thinning medicines, and so on. This is due to the fact that Garcinia Cambogia may react with such medicines to result in some serious side effects.
The general Garcinia Cambogia side effects
The above mentioned are the possible adverse side effects of using Garcinia Cambogia in people who are already on meditation for a particular health condition or going through some other specific health conditions in which it isn’t recommended to use Garcinia Cambogia. We will now take a look at some of its general side effects, which almost anyone using Garcinia Cambogia may come across. However, the good news is that they aren’t very serious, dangerous, or adverse, leaving you with less to worry about even if you don’t play it all safe by taking the right product in the right way.
Some of the general possible side effects include
- Dizziness
- Dry mouth
- Diarrhea
- Stomach problems

Overall safety of Garcinia Cambogia
As you can see above, none of the side effects are dangerous or life-threatening. In fact, one may just come across a mild version of such side effects, which isn’t exactly a big cause to worry about.
However, these Garcinia Cambogia side effects are only related to use of Garcinia Cambogia for a short period of time, usually around 12 weeks. Its long term side effects are still not known, and hence it’s not clear whether it’s safe for using for a long period of time or not.
But the relieving thing is that one may not even have to use it for a very long period of time, as it’s known to achieve quick results. This can be especially true if supplemented with some other things that help in losing weight such as resorting to more healthy foods such as fruits, green vegetables, beans and legumes, nuts, and so on, while skipping those which restrict the process such as soft drinks, processed foods, oily foods, and so on. Similarly, a bit of an exercise while taking Garcinia Cambogia regularly may go a long way in improving the results as well. So, you may not have to take it for a very long period of time and can stay safe from its long term side effects, which are still unknown.
